FUBARINO CONTEST: BATTERY capability TESTER

Here’s a job that we unfortunately let slip with the cracks a couple of years ago. thankfully [Brian] dusted it off as well as added an Easter Egg to the firmware in buy to include it in the Fubarino Contest. The gadget is a rechargeable battery capability tester. It discharges NiMH or NiCad batteries with a tons resistor at about 1 Watt. [Brian] includes a discussion in his review about the hardware’s inability to work with 14500 Li-Ion cells. He includes sufficient information for you to figure out exactly how to make modifications to the circuit if you want to allow this option.

There is a MOSFET for changing each of the three battery positions. The ATmega168 takes readings from the cells when per second. It screens condition info on a Nokia 5510 cellphone screen. This is where he selected to inject the Hackaday URL. When a cell’s discharge is complete, the picture above scrolls onto the screen as well as stays there for a short time. See for yourself after the break.
